Sousei no Taiga Synopsis
Taiga and six friends—all members of an anthropology seminar at a Japanese university—are caught in a cave-in while exploring a cave they stumbled upon during a trip to Australia.
Although Taiga and his friends were unharmed, the world had completely changed when they emerged from the cave. They discovered wild animals that were clearly not modern species, and Riku, who had knowledge of paleontology, was stunned to realize they were Caricotherium, an ancient extinct species.
Furthermore, when they spot a mammoth from the top of a small hill, the group becomes convinced that they are on Earth during prehistoric times.Night eventually falls, and the group spends the night in a cave on a cliff, though none of them can sleep a wink. After several days of survival, Arata speculates that they are on Earth tens of thousands of years in the past, and that their location is likely somewhere in the region stretching from northern Africa to the Middle East or southern Europe.
Amidst this, the group witnesses Neanderthals and Homo sapiens killing each other and, by chance, acquires a local stone spear.
